LA ARES has three modes of support: CD-1, Incident Base, and Mobile ops:
CD-1 will be focused on local and regional communications via repeaters and HF. I hope to get a mesh network setup eventually with links to White Rock and the Santa Fe EOC. If so, that’ll be part of the CD-1 operation.
Incident Base support is primarily associated with the Comm Trailer, so if that’s your bag, that’s what you prioritize. The comm trailer is used in local events like the upcoming MS-150 and of course SAR missions.
Mobile operations will be primarily associated with SAR missions, and those folks will establish manual relay sites and cross-band repeaters (either mobile or portable). So you either need a well-equipped 4WD or be a good hiker.
We have a survey where you can sign up for ARES and indicate your preferences (by ordering them in terms of importance to you) for the above three capabilities. If you just want to focus on one or two capabilities, there’s a comment block at the bottom where you can clarify your position. Here’s the link: https://kwiksurveys.com/s/yUpMivN5
